In the first verse of Eminem’s Walk on Water featuring Beyoncé, he addresses the pressure that comes with high expectations, questioning if it’s the unattainable bar he set for himself. This verse opens us to Eminem’s doubt about his craft as well as his personal worth. These haunting echoes of self-doubt are not just unique to Eminem, but a shared reality for many of us.
The lyrics of this song clearly shows how the weight of Eminem’s earlier works, perhaps the 'curse' of his amazing and groundbreaking first albums, add to the burden of perfection he places on himself. This struggle is one that a lot of people struggle with. The universal human quest for self acceptance in the face of impossibly high and sometimes unattainable standards.

Well, as he takes us on his journey of self realization, he admits that he is human and flawed, and tells of his imperfections. He is willing to lay bare his vulnerabilities and show us that side of him people don’t really see.
The line 'time to close the curtain on a very successful career' signals a moment of contemplation. He admits that the constant criticism and scrutiny of his work has taken a toll on him. This opens us to know how human he is, and despite his success and remarkable career, he still struggles with the never ending pursuit of perfection.

'Walk on Water' stands as a testament to the universal struggle for self-worth, inviting listeners to reflect on their own expectations and imperfections. Eminem’s willingness to expose his vulnerabilities makes this song not just a piece of music but a profound exploration of the human condition in the face of relentless scrutiny.

This might be the worst I’ve written because I battled finding my voice in it, but it’s part of the experiment. I’m exploring various forms of writing, and this one in some way resonates with a lot of us. I also had to make sure I posted this on my birthday, as Eminem’s Revival album came out this day In 2017. So this is a fan appreciating this amazing work of art.
