I had a very weird week, but that’s a story for the future. I decided to turn to my notes on notion and found something I had written in May, I thought I should share, especially after the week I had.
If you’re anything like me, (maybe you are or not), you would realize going through the early phases of adulthood in the current world is as tough as it gets. It’s definitely exciting sometimes, but for most parts it’s scary. There’s usually the idea that you should have things already figured out by now, and yes, a lot of people write, talk and complain about this, but let’s be real, life does not work that way and OMO, things are getting tougher.
There are a list of things that we struggle with, from financial pressure, to career uncertainty, comparison, and peer pressure and a lot of things. These struggles come up in different forms for different people.
Life at the stage is obviously different for everyone, we see our mates living the “Perfect Lives”, and this can make us feel like we’re falling short of some expectation we or the society put on ourselves. The crazy thing is that, the person you think is living the perfect life is also going through struggles and thinking he or she is behind. I think that’s why we get the advice to focus more on ourselves.
Instead of stressing about having a perfect plan in place, we should embrace the ups and downs of life, we should see setbacks as opportunities to learn and to grow. I know this sounds like some aspire to perspire bullshit, but it helps to keep the mind a bit focuses and relaxed. We should also learn to be mindful and grateful for where we are at, no matter how low we think it is. Mindfulness (Awareness), Gratitude, and Contentment are very key during these periods.
I have seen and learned a little in my 20 something years on your planet, that some of life’s best moments happen when things do not exactly go as you plan them. It is in those moments of not been sure that we discover our true strength. It is when we are faced with the toughest of challenges that we see what we are truly capable of.
So here’s to all of us going through the gruesome tides of young adulthood(Omo I sabi English sha), as much as it overwhelms you sometimes, know that it is fine. We are some way and somehow in this together, we will find a way to figure it out on our journey, we will do this one day at a time as we enjoy what each day brings us. So enjoy the ride, guys, and thank you for coming to my aspire to Maguire Ted talk. The best is yet to come.
Do have a great and amazing week…
